The straight strap hanger attaches directly to the door face without a curved piece going over the wheel, giving a lower-profile assembly above the door that requires only 3 in of clearance — 1 in less than the J-strap bypass — and a higher total weight capacity of 80 lbs.

The bypass mechanism uses two hanger types: flat rollers hang the door at the standard track depth; bent rollers offset the door slightly forward from the wall so the two types can pass each other on the same track. The front door's outer wheel sits between the two wheels of the back door — this interleaving allows them to share one track. When one door reaches the end of its travel, it contacts the other door's wheels and carries it along — that's the telescoping effect. Adjacent doors always maintain a 4-1/2 in overlap when closed — they do not close completely flush edge-to-edge.
